The Sheriff's Investigation unit is the lead investigative arm of the
office. This unit investigates all major crimes against person(s) or
property. Many of these investigations involve multiple suspects and/or
jurisdictions. The unit annually works with a variety of local, state,
county and federal agencies to bring to justice criminal acts committed
against citizens in Union County. Several hundreds and thousands of dollars
in property recovery and other stolen assets as well as seized narcotics
and implements of crime are directly credited to the investigative section
and the deputy sheriffs assigned. The investigative unit utilizes a host of
specialized technology in conducting their investigations including
detection and surveillance equipment as well as crime scene processing.
Investigators routinely work closely with the state attorney and the
medical examiners office.
The Sheriff's investigative unit also has assigned a deputy sheriff to the
Federal Drug Enforcement Agency. This deputy works as a cross-sworn federal
officer responsible for complex narcotic investigations and works as part of
a multi-jurisdictional task force throughout north-east Florida.
